“But will God indeed dwell with men on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this temple which I have built!” (II Chronicles 6:18)
This is King Solomon’s temple dedication prayer shows this balance. He began by highlighting God’s holiness and faithfulness. Then he gave full credit to God for thr success of the project and emphasized God’s greatness,by declaring:” Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this temple which I have built!” (II Chronicles 6:18)
After exalting God, Solomonasked God to show mercy to the Israelites and to provide for them when they knew to confessed their sin! Immediately after Solomon’s prayer, ” “fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.”
(II Chronicles 7:1)
This incredible response reminds us as well, that our mighty One we praise and speak to when we pray, actually is the same One who listens to and cares about our requests too! Thank You, Lord Jesus!
